Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1 (Wed):
Arrive in Tanzania. Evening Orientation at Hotel in Arusha. (D)

Arriving in Tanzania, if you have purchased airport transfers, you are met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Or you arrive at the hotel on your own.

In the early evening you will get together for a Trip Orientation with the local guide/Trip Leader. During this orientation, the guide will discuss the itinerary and answer any last-minute questions. You will also get to meet your fellow travel companions for this trip. The remainder of the day/evening is yours to relax and enjoy the beautiful gardens and outdoor pool of the hotel

Day 2:
Full Day Volunteer at School or Orphanage (B, L, D)

Today begins the first of 3 days of volunteering at either local schools, orphanages, etc. While Tanzania benefits greatly from tourism dollars brought into the country from people like yourself, other parts of the economy aren’t as vibrant and opportunity and education are still very much an issue for many. The goal of this program is to augment our visit to the great parks of Tanzania, by also volunteering some of our time to try and provide a little bit of relief and hope to those who need it most. We’ll do this by visiting local schools, orphanages, etc. to both interact with the children and teachers, as well as deliver any much-needed school supplies that you wish to purchase at home and bring with you. We will also get our hands dirty a little bit and lend a helping hand with whatever minor projects that are needed in the places that we visit. This could include helping paint the school, beautifying the landscaping, assist with simple building and repair, cleaning, or whatever needs doing at the time of our visit. You don’t need any special skills to participate, but rather just an open mind and a willingness to help in any way possible. Of course we will also spend some time with the children understanding their culture and sharing a message of hope and that anything is possible. We encourage you to bring well-needed school supplies with you from home to share with the school and students (we’ll provide a list should you so desire to do this).

NOTE: Please note that this is a volunteer trip that is highly fluid and with an itinerary that can and will change based on the immediate needs of schools, orphanages, etc. that we will visit. We do our best to stay on itinerary, but ultimately we are guests and the organizations that we are supporting decide how, when, where and what we will do. The activities that we try to focus on are general maintenance that anyone can do (painting, landscaping, cleanup, etc.). If you have any advanced skills (teaching, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.), please let us know ahead of time so we can inquire if these skills can be utilized during your visit. You will never be obligated to participate if you feel any volunteer activities are beyond your comfort zone. We also strive to incorporate ample time spent with the children in a learning and/or interaction capacity, however it’s important to note that we always work around the itinerary and needs of the school. Thus any and all itinerary items are subject to change.

Day 3:
Full Day Volunteer at School or Orphanage (B, L, D)

Today is the second day of our mission to give back and help out where we can. Our local guide will direct us to the next area of need. This could include a visit to the local markets to pick up much-needed food for the local orphanage. With our local guide (and included in the cost of this program), you will visit the markets and purchase rice, maze flour, cooking oils, sugar, tea leaves, and different tropical fruits and vegetables. Together you will bring these supplies to the orphanage and help them prepare a meal. You’ll also have time to help out with whatever needs doing (painting, cleaning, repairs, etc.) and of course spend time with the children.

Day 4 (Sat):
Full Day Volunteer at School or Orphanage. Trip Ends. OR Start First Day of the Optional Group Safari (B, L)

Today is the third full day of volunteering. We may revisit the schools or orphanages, visit new schools, or even find ourselves helping out and participating at a woman’s support and education program. Again, it will depend on the needs and schedules of the various programs and schools at the time of our visit. In the late afternoon, the volunteer portion of the trip officially ends and, if purchased, the optional Group Safari begins with an early evening Trip Orientation at the hotel.

-- Optional Group Safari (if purchased):
Day 1 (Sat):
TANZANIA. PM ORIENTATION

You are met and transferred to your hotel in Arusha.

Day 2:
LOCAL CULTURAL TOUR

After breakfast, your guide will take you on a visit to local cultural sites that are near and dear to their heart. Visits could include a local tribal village, local schools, coffee farm, some local game viewing, etc. The goal will be to get you a bit off the beaten path to see the Tanzania that most tourists don't get a chance to see. (Breakfast included).

Day 3:
TARAGIRE NATIONAL PARK

After a hearty breakfast you will meet up with your guide and drive 2-3 hours through the countryside from Arusha to Tarangire National Park which is located slightly off the main safari path. You’ll stop for lunch enroute.

In the afternoon your guide will take you on an exciting game drive through the park. The park is famous for its huge variety of birdlife (almost 400 different species) and for its elephant population and tree-climbing lions.

Overnight is at an excellent safari lodge.

*** Please note that during this entire trip we leave it open to the expertise of your local safari guide to choose where exactly to visit based on current animal concentration, location of sightings by other guides, weather, etc., so the exact schedule may change slightly. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included).

Day 4:
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Getting another early start, you will drive 2-3 hours to the gates of the world famous Serengeti National Park, view various animals along the way and stopping at the Olduvai Gorge for lunch. After lunch you will be taken on a spectacular afternoon game drive through the Serengeti Plains tracking the great animals of Africa.

For the next two nights you will overnight in luxury tent camps in the Serengeti. This is definitely a favorite and an amazing experience that you'll remember forever! (Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included).

Day 5:
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Following breakfast you will head out and spend a full day continuing to explore the vast and spectacular Serengeti. Your guide will know the best places to find the constantly moving and sometimes elusive animals of these great plains. Again you will spend another amazing night in the Serengeti. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included).

Day 6:
NGORONGORO CRATER & MASAI MARA VILLAGE VISIT

Leaving the amazing Serengeti Plains after a morning game drive, you will make a stop at an authentic Masai Mara Village (guide may change the day that you visit the Masai Mara Village). Here you'll get a chance to interact with this famous tribe and see how they live day to day.

After visiting the Masai Mara Village, you'll make your way to the incredible Ngorongoro Crater National Park. Perhaps more awe-inspiring than the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater is not only one of nature’s true wonders, it is also a photographer’s dream. Being the largest intact crater in the world, Ngorongoro is the massive remnants of a once mighty volcano that collapsed upon itself 2 million years ago. The result is an unbroken circular wall that measures 2,000 feet high, 10 miles across and features a flat, fertile floor. Due to its height, passing clouds get caught up on the crater, providing precious rainwater all year. Today the crater is a self-contained, year-round Garden of Eden for 30,000 plus animals of all kinds and the perfect spot for safaris any day of the year. Ngorongoro is, beyond question, a sight that you will never forget. Overnight is at an excellent luxury safari lodge. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included).

Day 7:
VISIT BUSH TRIBE

In the morning, you'll travel deep into the countryside and visit a nomadic Bush Tribe. You'll see how the Bush people live day to day, make their own bows and arrows, and if it's a hunting day you may have the opportunity to join them as they search for food for the tribe.

In the afternoon, travel back to Arusha. (Breakfast and lunch are included).

Day 8:
TRIP ENDS

Your adventure ends at the hotel after breakfast. At the appropriate time, if you purchased airport transfers, you are transferred to the airport for your flight home. (Breakfast is included).
