Day 2:
Day Tour of Auckland (B)

We’ll start this tour with a 5-hour guide visit of the beautiful city of Auckland. For the first 2.5 hours, we’ll see Auckland via land. Traveling along Queen Street, the 'Golden Mile' of Auckland’s business and shopping district, we’ll see buildings that date back to the 1880s, modern high-rise towers, and New Zealand’s largest university, before crossing Waitemata Harbour on the Auckland Harbour Bridge. From here we’ll view the harbor, marinas and city skyline, and learn about volcanic sites around the city as you drive along Tamaki Drive and the waterfront. You'll also go into one of Auckland's oldest parks, the expansive Auckland Domain, where the Auckland War Memorial Museum was established in 1852.

At the end of 2.5 hours, we’ll be dropped off at the Auckland Ferry Terminal for our boat tour of beautiful Waitemata Harbour. We’ll cruise past landmarks including Devonport, Auckland Harbour Bridge and Westhaven Marina, and have the opportunity to see the volcanic terrain of Rangitoto Island firsthand during a brief stop at the island. Our tour ends at the Sky Tower, which stands 1075 feet (328 meters) tall, the highest building in New Zealand. You can visit the Sky Tower on your own and go up to the observation deck for panoramic views of Auckland.

This evening, why not again join your fellow travel mates out for an optional dinner out in town.

Overnight in Auckland

Day 3:
Optional Waitomo Caves, the Agrodome, Rotorua & Maori Arts Institute (B, L)

After experiencing the city, today for those who chose the optional activity, we’ll head out to the countryside to visit some of the most popular sights on New Zealand’s North Island; the glow worms of Waitomo Caves, Maori Arts Institute, Rotorua & the Agrodome working sheep farm.

Be sure to pack a few snacks, as it will be a long, but definitely well worth it, 13+ hour day. We’ll depart Auckland about 7:30am and travel first to Waitomo Caves, famous for its glowworm caverns. Here we’ll take a guided tour underground to view the icicle-shaped stalactites and learn how they were formed over eons. A boat ride takes us through the Glowworm caves, where seemingly millions of glowworms illuminate the chamber walls and ceilings in a breathtaking display that looks like you are staring into the starry sky.

Our next stop is at the Agrodome, a working sheep and cattle farm where we’ll watch sheep shearing demonstrations, see sheep mustering by highly trained dogs, feed young farm animals and milk a cow for an authentic Kiwi experience. Back on the bus, we’ll enjoy a boxed lunch and refreshments en route to Rotorua.

Our first stop in Rotorua is Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve. Meander past gurgling mud pools and silica terraces as our local guide points out features of this geothermal wonder. Marvel at the 100-foot-high (30-meter) Pohutu Geyser; a famous natural attraction since the early 20th century, it erupts 10 to 20 times a day. Finally, we’ll visit the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute for a look at traditional Maori customs. Discover time-honored wood carvings and weavings and learn of their significance at sacred Maori meeting houses. We’ll then take the long return ride back to Auckland, arriving at our hotel about 8:15pm.

The mineral concentration in the mud is used for therapeutic and beauty treatments. Queen Cleopatra and Sheba both were said to have known the value of the site and used it. Due to high salinity, the water supports no form of life hence the name the Dead Sea. This is also the reason that floating in the water is very easy. Day 20:
Salzburg Austria Day Tour (B)

The final day of this incredible journey brings you to the stunning fortress city of Salzburg, Austria. A favorite city of Europe for many and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Salzburg is one of the crown jewel cities of the Alps.

In the morning, traveling by train or bus, we’ll join a local guide and group for an included visit to this extraordinary city. Home to Mozart and guarded by an imposing 11th century castle perched high above the city, you’ll explore the quaint streets and amazing history of Salzburg. You’ll enjoy a guided tour of Salzburg, then given time to explore the city on your own. For lunch, we recommend a visit to the Augustinerbräu - Kloster Mülln Monastery Brewery beer garden... founded by monks in 1621, it is located at the base of the mountain that hosts the city’s castle and contains 2 large indoor beer halls and a 1,000-person outdoor beer garden. The food is excellent and the beer is widely considered the best in the world! As time allows, we may also visit other important and beautiful sights outside of the city. At the end of the day, we return to Munich.

Tonight, why not join your fellow group members and Trip Leader out for an optional final farewell dinner to celebrate your amazing journey and recount the many incredible experiences you've had!
