Arrive in Marrakesh (airport code: RAK) and meet at the assigned hotel (details to be provided) OR if you purchase airport transfers through us (Highly Recommended), then you are met at the airport and transferred to our nearby hotel. Your airport transfer person will provide you with details about when/where you will be meeting your local guide to begin the tour and we will send you details on how to meet up with your fellow GEC travelers.

Today you have the day free to enjoy the beauty of Marrakesh. There are several optional excursions that will be available to you through the hotel and/or that the local guide will offer.

Day tour of Marrakesh. Optional Dinner and Fantasia show. (B)
After breakfast, you'll spend the entire day with the local guide exploring the fun and vibrant city of Marrakesh; also known as the second Imperial City and the Pearl of the south. Marrakesh sits in a lush oasis nestled at the foot of the snowcapped Atlas Mountains. You'll visit the famous Saadien Tombs, the Dar Si Said Museum, the Koutoubia Tower and the Bahia Palace.
After lunch visit one of the Souks and the "medina" (an exciting and exotic labyrinth where small shops are lined one next to the other selling Moroccan handicrafts). Feeling as if time has stopped still, the Souks are bustling with shoppers buying their goods and the craftsmen working in the most traditional ways. You will then visit the famous Djemaa El Fna Square, a unique location filled with animated jugglers, story-tellers, snake-charmers, and many other show men who entertain the crowds. Here you'll have free time to stroll among the locals and shop in the famous market. It'll be an exciting day and certainly one of the highlights of the trip!
OPTIONAL: Dinner and Fantasia show - Overnight in Marrakesh
Begin 4x4 Desert Adventure. To Ouarzazate via Atlas Mts. (B, D)
After breakfast, you’ll depart Marrakesh by 4WD for Ouarzazate via the famous Atlas Mountains. Along the way, you’ll pass over the Tich’n’Tichka Pass at an altitude of 7,414 feet (2,260m), through Telouet with its absolutely stunning scenery. Today you’ll also visit Kasbah of Telouet, former residence of the Glaoui family who were one of the most influential of this region. Optional Lunch, and then visit Kasbah Ait Benhadou. This kasbah is the most famous in Morocco and has served as the setting for many famous movies. The Kasbah is now a UNESCO protected monument. You’ll then do a short visit of Ouarzazate, including the Kasbah of Taourirt. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
Overnight in Ouarzate.
Ouarzazate to Merzouga (B, D)
This morning the group will travel on the road to Boumalne and EL Kelâa via the road of the thousand Kasbahs, and passing by Skoura. On the way, we pass the beautiful kasbah of Amerhidel, visit of Canyon Dades and continue to Tinghir. Tinghir is famous for its magnificent Todra canyons whose rocks reach an altitude of 750 feet (250m). The trip will include an excursion to the canyons and with the possibility for a short hike. (Optional) Lunch will be at a restaurant situated at the foot of the canyons. After lunch, continue to Erfoud, and then to Merzouga. Dinner and accommodation in Merzouga
Overnight in Merzouga
Merzouga to Zagora (B, D)
Today you’ll take a short early morning walk to see the sunrise over the sand-dunes of Merzouga. You’ll the have breakfast a depart for Zagora, via the village of Rissani, birthplace of the present Alaouites Dynasty. For there, you’ll continue to Alnif, a small Berber village, for (Optional) lunch. Following lunch, you’ll travel to Zagora via Tazzarine and Taghbalt. On the way, you’ll witness splendid sceneries of pre-Saharian desert dotted with Berber villages. You’ll take an excursion to Tamegroute, and visit the famous library containing an impressive collection of old Manuscripts and documents dating from the 12th century. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
Overnight in Zagora.
Zagora to Marrakesh (B, D)
After Breakfast, we start making our way back to Marrakesh. From Agdz, we follow the road leading through numerous villages and palm groves along the Drâa river before reaching Ouarzazate. Following an optional lunch, continue back over the Atlas Mountains via the Tizin ’tichka pass and arriving back in Marrakesh.

Marrakesh - Trip Ends & Airport Transfer (B)
Trip ends after breakfast. Make your own way to the airport OR if you purchased airport transfers through us, you are picked up at the hotel and transferred to the airport to catch your flight home.

At the time of printing, Visas are not required for US citizens visiting Morocco and staying less than 90 days. Please be sure to check with the Moroccan embassy in the US (or your country of citizenship) before the trip to ensure that this is still the case.

- Weather in Morocco is generally considered the best in Spring, Summer and Fall, with little to no rainfall. Temperatures range from a high of 78F (26C) during the day to a low of 48F (9C) at night… little cooler in Spring and Fall and a little warmer in the summer. Generally long light pants and a light jacket are best.
