The trip officially begins in the late afternoon with the official Group Trip Orientation in the lobby of the hotel (complete details provided before departure). At the Orientation you will get a chance to meet your fellow Global Expeditions Club travel mates, as well as the GEC Trip Leader who will provide an overview of the trip and answer any last minute questions.

The evening is then free to relax and adjust to the jet lag OR you can venture out with the Trip Leader and you’re fellow club members and enjoy an optional group dinner at one of Munich’s many famous restaurants.

Overnight Munich.

Day 2
Optional AM Bike Tour of Munich and PM Beer & Food Tour (B)

We start this tour off right, with an optional 2-part combo day/evening tour of Munich.

AM: The morning portion of this tour is an easy 3-hour guided bike based tour of Munich. Munich is one of the friendliest cities in Europe for bikes, so there is no better way to explore this historic city than a guide tour on two wheels! During this tour you’ll ride around Munich’s open parks, elegant plazas, meandering riverbanks and winding, medieval alleyways. This tour includes stops at gathering spots like Marienplatz, Königsplatz, the Odeonsplatz and more. Ride through Englischer Garten, Europe’s largest city park and stop at the Chinese Tower beer garden for a beverage.

PM: After spending approximately three hours enjoying some free time in the city following the AM tour, the 3.5-hour PM Bavarian beer and food tour will begin. With our local guide we’ll get the inside scoop on Munich’s beer culture and its breweries, then travel by public transportation to the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum, a self-proclaimed monument to Munich's long and very proud beer culture. We’ll discover the role of Bavarian beer in the country’s history and sample some of Munich’s finest brews. We’ll then visit one of Munich’s beer gardens for another drink and a sampling of local snacks. Finally, we’ll end the tour at Munich’s famous watering hole, Hofbräuhaus, a festive 3-floor beer hall dating back to the 16th century.

For those who don’t choose this optional tour, today is a leisure day to spend as you wish (NOTE: this optional tour must be arranged with your booking or at least 2 weeks before departure and is subject to availability).

Overnight Munich.

Day 3
Day Trip to Salzburg, Austria (B)

A favorite city of Europe for many and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Salzburg is one of the crown jewel cities of the Alps. In the morning, we’ll join a local guide and tour for an included visit to this extraordinary city. Home to Mozart and guarded by an imposing 11th century castle perched high above the city, you’ll explore the quaint streets and amazing history of Salzburg. As time allows, we’ll also visit other important and beautiful sights outside of the city. At the end of the day, we return via our group coach to our hotel in Munich.

Overnight Munich.

Day 4
Day Trip to the Historic Village of Rothenburg (B)

Today features another included tour, but this time instead of a city, we’ll venture out with a local guide and tour to the small, quaint and traditional Bavarian Village of Rothenburg located about 3 hours northwest of Munich. Known for its medieval architecture and traditional timber houses, and spared from total destruction in WW2, Rothenburg stands as a living testament to the beauty of Bavaria. During this bus tour we’ll travel Germany’s Romantic Road, a famously picturesque route through Bavaria’s mountains and forests, stopping at the 11th-century Harburg Castle, one of Germany’s oldest fortifications, and finally arriving at Rothenburg. In Rothenburg you’ll have time to explore the wonderful town. Our return to Munich will bring us through the Hallertau, then world’s largest hop growing area and a critical source of ingredient for Germany’s famous beer.

Overnight Munich.

Day 5
Leisure Day to Explore Munich (B)

Today is a leisure day to further explore more Munich and its surrounding area on your own or with your new-found travel mates. There is plenty to do and see, and your Trip Leader will have plenty of ideas for you.

Overnight Munich.

Day 6
Optional Neuschwanstein Castle Tour (B)

Today features your chance to join the optional group tour to the famous King Ludwig's castle in Neuschwanstein! Famed in part for being the inspiration for Disney's Cinderella's Castle, this castle is even more amazing as it was used as the real thing. Perched high on the top of a small mountain at the foothills of the Alps, the castle was started in 1869 by "Crazy" King Ludwig II and is a must see while in southern Germany. We'll explore the castle, as well as the stunning views surrounding the castle, returning to Munich early evening.

For those who don’t choose this optional tour, today is a leisure day to spend as you wish (NOTE: this optional tour must be arranged with your booking or at least 2 weeks before departure and is subject to availability).

Overnight Munich.

Day 7
Trip Ends.

Trip ends after breakfast. You'll make your own way to the airport (a direct train is available to the airport - details to be provided before departure).
