Bright and early, you will transfer to the airport for the short, but exciting flight over the Peruvian Andes to the Amazon Rainforest village of Puerto Maldonado. A tasty lunch will be provided on the boat while you travel along the river.

The afternoon will be spent with your eco-lodge based guide, as he/she takes you on a nature walk and a canoe excursion through the rainforest. Here your guide will introduce you to the diverse and plentiful ecology of this vast and important jungle and you'll have ample opportunity to view the numerous indigenous birds and animals that call this great rainforest home. At sunset you’ll have a chance to climb up a tower that takes you just above the jungle canopy. It’s a great opportunity to see the jungle from a whole different perspective. Your evening will end with a delicious dinner served in the lodge’s open aired dinning room.

Being one of the most wild, untamed, and uninhabited hotspots of our planet, the viewing possibilities are as varied as they are virtually endless. The day will start with a pre-dawn hike, followed by a float on a nearby lake for wildlife viewing. During the day you’ll also have a change to spend a bit of time at the lodge’s bird blind. If you are lucky, you’ll have a chance to observe some of the Macaw Lick parrots that often come to gather on the clay cliffs at the river’s edge. Overnight in the jungle lodge. (Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner).

Seasonal Info
  • The best months to visit Peru (Machu Picchu, Amazon, Puno, etc.) are in the dry season from May to September when the conditions are fairly dry and the weather generally sunny. During the dry season, which is the most popular time to visit, the nights and early mornings can be very cool and the sun shines most days, so adequate layers of clothing is required for varied conditions. Of course you may see some rain during the dry season so you will need to prepare accordingly, but generally it is quite nice. The dry cool nights also provide for some amazing star gazing of the southern stars! April and October see more clouds but can still be good if that is the only time you have.
